Nicknamed the Warm heart of Africa, Malawi is bordered by Zambia to the North West, Tanzania to the North East, and Mozambique on the East, South and West. The land of the lake, Malawi is dominated by Lake Malawi, Africa’s third largest lake containing more fish species than any other lake in the world.
The capital is Lilongwe. Its commercial city is Blantyre, founded by Scottish missionary activity in the 19th century and named after the birthplace of the renowned Scottish explorer, David Livingstone. Malawi means flames of fire in ChiChewa, the official language of the country.
