Jeunanne Alkins is a creative director and content developer with over 14 years post-qualification experience. She started her career in corporate communications and marketing, and moved on to become the Design Manager at Toute Bagai Publishing – publisher of the award-winning MACO magazines. After three and a half years, she left the company to set up her design studio – Everything Slight Pepper (ESP), in 2010. The studio name succinctly captures Jeunanne’s creative approach to brand development, steeped in an original indigenous vibe. Within 3 years ESP was being hailed as a breakout agency when its designs for 3ZERO Rums copped top awards in the local, regional and district legs of the 2013 American Advertising Federation (AAF) sponsored ADDY competition. In 2104, Jeunanne was nominated as an “Emerging Entrepreneur” in the Champions of Business gala held by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
While Everything Slight Pepper devotes much of its time to client work, in 2012 Jeunanne launched a pet project, ESPjr – a retail children’s brand. With ESPjr, she leads the team in developing original Caribbean-themed content for children that simultaneously teaches while it entertains. Merging art, storytelling, and environmental awareness, ESPjr’s signature line of screen-printed garments features the endangered leatherback turtle, snowcone, blue crab and coconuts. More recently, Jeunanne has turned her attention to telling the turtle hatchling story in a self-authored and illustrated picture book “Ready.SET...HATCH!”
To date, the ESPjr brand has won consecutive awards in 2013 and 2014 in the “Ideas to Innovation” competition held by the Council for Competitiveness & Innovation and the Ministry of Planning. Content in development includes - “Bim and Bam: The Adventure Series”, a 13 x 22min animated TV series set in the Caribbean, and “The Mini-ficent 7” a book and play set series about historic Caribbean architecture.
In a culture inundated with imported children’s products, Alkins has had success with getting the local market to buy Caribbean, selling out stalls at local artisan markets, securing retail distribution locally and regionally with the Sandals hotel chain.
Having crafted a distinct brand identity for both of her companies, Jeunanne remains focused on her ultimate goal – an internationally distributed Caribbean-centric multimedia brand.
